Hey guys - I was amazed to see that there is a controversy brewing over Gillie's innings in the WC final. I'm assuming that most everyone now knows that Adam Gilchrist used a squash ball inside his left glove during his amazing 149. Now, I just thought it was a brave move that he would've copped plenty of criticism for had he got out cheaply. What do others think? Was it "unfair"? I'm open to debate - don't want to be blind to things because he's someone whom I admire.
Let's hear it ...

Just my $ 0.02
Firslty, if its not against any written rule, then no one can question his act.
Secondly, Gillie is a class apart and I personally think that he is soo talented for International Cricket, that to give himself some competition he has to play these tricks. We have to give him respect for actually pin pointing his weak points (if he has any) and then implementing a fix for it. After all he did score a whopping 149...
Sorry to say this, but our indian batsmen can NOT even bat straight, I dont ever think they can do any kinda batting with a squash ball in their glove. Thats beyond their league.
I strongly feel since the critics could NOT find any faults in the Aussie Game Implementation, and due to the fear of loosing their jobs as critics, they are doing what they are best know for......
Cheers

Hmm...people who are not happy with a squash ball in Gilchrist's glove....'Get a squash ball, put it in ur bottom hand glove, and try playing!' Trust me..its not fun. People should stop taking credit away from him just becoz he had a squash ball in his glove. Well...if thats what got him his century, I am mailing BCCI a pack of them..may be Indian cricketers need couple of balls in their gloves too!
Its one hell of an idea..who ever came up with it! And..we should appreciate this guy for trying it out. And..dont tell me that u guysz believe that balls in gloves get centuries!!!!

I KNOW IS PLAYING WITH SQUASH IN GLOVE IS AMAZING, I WAS WONDERING WHY GILCHRIST POINTING TO HIS GLOVES. INDIAN CRICKTERS OR BCCI NEEDS TO LEARN BY NOW HIRING (AUS) COACH MAKE THEM LIKE AUS OR BETTER, SO JUST PLAY CRICKET...................

I think the law is too vague:
"External protective equipment is any visible item of apparel worn for protection against external blows. For a batsman, items permitted are a helmet, external leg guards (batting pads), batting gloves and, if visible, forearm guards."
This arguement is similar to Barry Bonds wearing elbow protector...as long as it is not defined clearly in the laws...i think it's ok. Because current players have better equipment now then few yrs back players and future players will have better equipment than current players...so this is more like whinning than anything else. Get it over guys...work hard to win the next World Cup.

mmmm Interesting... I was very surprised when i heard that for the first time how can you play squash ball inside the glove and play that too at the big game like world cup final.. First of all i would appreciate his courage taking big decision in the crucial match also am amazed with the australian team supported him.. I don't think he hid from anybody may be he would have played couple of times in the nets before he actually used that technique in the real match.. another thing surprises me how could his coach can think like that, to make adjustment to batting style... that separates aussies from any other international team....

Thats true. Moreover, I would not count the squash ball in his glove as an additional protection! Would u? It was just an addition to change his gamestyle..so his bottom hand would not come into play more often. He did not hit the ball better just becoz he had something in his gloves. It just changed his scoring shots. This will not be the last of innovative things to be tried in cricket..pretty sure many more to come... some would get laughed at! Some very successful ones like the one here would get mixed comments!
